Girl in Mower Accident Receives Funds from Florida Chick-fil-A Restaurants
When he heard the tragic news, Dan Metzger, owner/operator of the Chick-fil-A in Palm Harbor, Fla., realized that the little girl who had lost both feet in a recent lawn mower accident, Ireland Nugent, was a neighbor in his community and he wanted to help.
As it turned out, Ireland and her parents were regular customers at Dan’s restaurant. So Dan arranged a Spirit Night in Ireland’s honor, when a percentage of sales at all local Chick-fil-A restaurants went to the Nugent family to help cover medical expenses.
“The turnout was extremely good,” Dan says. “The family attended and we tried to concentrate on them. We were able to present them with a check for $2,800.”
Since losing both feet in the accident, Ireland has undergone numerous surgeries, but was able to return to preschool toward the end of the school year, wearing protective braces.
