The Airman And Me
My son and I love Chick-fil-A, so much so that it has become a "ritual" for us when we are together to eat at least one meal there regardless of where we are. And, we always try to get something that has the name of the city where we ate on it to take home as a memento.
When he graduated from Basic Airman Training, we discovered that San Antonio had 22 restaurants, but we could only knock out 12 by eating all three meals there while I was visiting! We have done this at every base where he is stationed.
This past winter he left for overseas for 24 months. On the way to the airport, he asked if we couldn't stop for just One More Meal at Chick-fil-A before he left. It was sort of our "farewell until..." dinner and couldn't have been better! We even had a good laugh with the staff there about this being his last truly American meal for a while. At every restaurant where we have gone, if he has been in uniform, the staff has always thanked him for his service and they are praying for him. It makes me so proud that he is treated with such respect!
Now, we are just hoping for a Chick-fil-A on base when I go visit him in Japan in the spring!
