It's My Pleasure!
Working in a hospital, I am extremely used to our customers being upset with the care, being frightened over their diagnosis, and basically hating the lack of control they feel when we put them in a gown and tell them they can't do anything without calling a nurse.
Developing good customer service skills in an environment where everything we do is intrusive, painful or inconvenient, is a challenge. I'll have to admit that it bothers me to no end when I am at another fast food establishment where I'm told, "See you tomorrow". How can I answer that? “Okay. No you won't. You too.” The small phrase, "It's my pleasure" is one of the most encouraging I've ever heard, and I think it is such a perfect design. To think someone takes pleasure in making my day a little easier, smiling at me and serving me is special.
Some people may think that working in fast food is demeaning-- it's not. I'm in a service industry too, as a nurse, and I've taken that phrase to heart. To let my patients know that, "It's my pleasure" to serve them has given me a whole new perspective, and I teach it to my staff. To let a customer know that your whole goal when you walk in the door is to serve and you take pleasure in that, elevates their day and elevates your job! Those three words may seem so small and so trite, but I believe if more people could truly take pleasure in what they do, they would be transformed.
Thank you for bringing the personal back into the industry. "It's my pleasure" to visit Chick-fil-A over and over!
