Seriously Fast Food
I am a member of Team Samaritan's Purse and run endurance events to help raise awareness and funds for Samaritan’s Purse projects around the world. I love competing in the Ironman Triathlon. It is a monster. You swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 and then if you are still standing run a full marathon, 26.2 miles! I competed in my first Ironman in Lake Placid in 2009 and finished in just under 15 hours. I was thrilled to finish, but knew I could go faster. In November 2010, I competed in Ironman Florida. I ran the fastest marathon time of my life (in an Ironman, which is crazy), and shattered my previous Ironman finishing time by 3 hours! I crossed the finish line in 11 hours and 51 minutes!
My secret? I had Chick-fil-A for breakfast the day before. Also I ordered about 5 Chick-fil-A Chicken Biscuits to go, for the 140.6 miles I was going! I stuffed biscuits everywhere on the course - my morning bag, my swim transition bag, my bike transition bag, my bike special needs bag, and saved one for the marathon as well. I get hungry out there on the course, but with Chick-fil-A fueling me I was able to run on.
I am racing in my 3rd Ironman in Texas in May. There are lots of details you have to work out like shipping your bike to the site, hotel and travel arrangements, but my only concern is where the nearest Chick-fil-A is!
