Hot Dog

My dog became overcome from the heat on our walk to a gas station recently. I had run out of gas and had to walk with her versus leaving her on the bus. I could see signs that she was dehydrated as she was crying out of both eyes. I walked up to the drive-thru and asked for a cup of ice water and they gladly passed the cup out of the window. I sat down with her in the shaded wet grass for at least a 1/2 hour, as she desperately drank the ice cold drink from the cup.

We could have stayed there longer, but I figured we would stop a few times on the way. A short distance down the road, we arrived at the gas station, and they allowed Rose to come in with me to get a cold bottle of water and a gas can. Walking back with the gas she collapsed again and lay there panting by the Chick-fil-A drive-thru.

The manager came out (Kevin) and offered me a bag of ice and more water to wet her down. We waited another 1/2 hour. Kevin insisted on giving us a ride in his truck (dog, gas, bag of ice and water) back to the bus. I accepted the ride due to the challenge of the walk.

I find that above and beyond what any other food chain would have done, and I believe I can thank them for saving my dog’s life. She is worn out now and lying on the cold kitchen floor.
