Autism And Ice Cream
My daughter has mild autism and the few phrases that she speaks are usually very much to the point since she does not always know how to express herself in a more polite manner. When she was about 2 years old we had been hanging out at the local Chick-fil-A with some friends and after a while I looked around suddenly wondering where she had gone off to. I looked up and spotted her at the register with several of the workers smiling down on her. And then I heard her say "ICE CREAM!"and do you know what they did? They gave it to her!
She is now 6 and I am still trying to teach her that you actually have to pay for stuff and not just demand it at the counter. I was very touched that they would give her Icedream without question, and take such delight in her. Her autism limits her socially and it always touches my heart to see people reach out to her. Thanks Chick-fil-A!
