My 8 month old daughter, Kate's, daycare was closed today since we had almost a foot of snow yesterday and overnight. We both had cabin fever after being inside all day yesterday too, so I decided to take her out for our first mommy-daughter lunch date. I packed up her baby food and diaper bag and we headed to Chick-fil-A. Of course, it started snowing as soon as I left the driveway, and had gotten blustery by the time we got to the restaurant.
I got Kate and all the baby gear into the restaurant, and was met at the door by the manager. (I wish I had looked at his name tag!) He helped me get Kate into a high chair and then walked with me up to the counter. Katherine, our cashier, was so friendly, took my order promptly, and as I pulled out my wallet to pay, simply said, "It's on us today." What a fantastic surprise!
The manager came back around the counter and took my tray out of my hands, got my condiments and napkins, and followed Kate and I to our table. As he helped me settle in, he let me know that the Fairview Heights location is now also doing Mommy Valet, allowing moms (and dads too!) to order and pay in the drive thru, and then setting a table with their order while the mom gets the kids out of the car and into the restaurant. What a wonderful idea!
The weather may have been frigid and blustery, but Kate and I were able to enjoy a wonderful, relaxing lunch, which is something to celebrate with an 8-month old in a restaurant! Today was just the first of what will be many Mommy-Kate dates to Chick-fil-A! Thank you for the outstanding service... and the lunch!
