The Comfort Of Cows
Our beautiful daughter Madalyn was diagnosed with Scoliosis and needed to undergo surgery to help correct it. Spinal surgery is daunting, especially for an active 11 year old. But focusing on the simple pleasures of life (like a #1 Chick-fil-A Combo) can make all the seriousness subside.
The evening before her procedure (a 4-hour operation) she had one request, that we eat at Chick-fil-A. We enjoyed the usual great food and friendly service and even received the added bonus of taking a picture with our Kyle, Texas store's cow mascot. Maddy even happened to be wearing the cow-print robe her grandmother made for her to wear into the hospital. Smiling and full from her delicious meal and lemonade, we returned home for the next morning's trip to the hospital.
After checking in at 5:30am, we escorted Maddy back to the prep room. She was very brave. The minutes seemingly flew by until it was time for the operation to begin. With one last kiss and hug, Maddy was off. Just before lunch time, Maddy's doctor emerged with the great news that all had gone wonderfully.
Naturally, Madalyn was in quite a bit of pain in the days that followed. Visitors, treats, and lots of sleep helped to pass the time and make it more bearable. As Maddy slept one evening, our great friend Trina called to see if she could treat her by bringing in her favorite Chick-fil-A #1 combo in for her lunch the next day. It was a very sweet gesture from Trina and we looked forward to seeing her.
Trina called ahead to the Kyle store and explained the special delivery she was making. Upon her arrival to pick up Maddy's lunch that next day, she was met not only with a great meal, but with a huge stuffed Chick-fil-A cow, a Get Well card, and coupons for sandwiches when Maddy healed. Maddy smiled from ear to ear upon receiving the gifts and enjoyed a very special lunch. Thank you Trina and thank you Chick-fil-A from the bottom of our hearts (and now straight spines). - The Raymonds
