No More Chemo!!
When our two year old daughter, Abigail, was diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of this summer - everything changed. Abigail had her left kidney removed and began chemotherapy sessions. The summer and fall were a blur: with chemo, ER visits and lots of sick days. There was no way she could go out and do normal kid stuff - too sick and too much risk of exposure to her compromised immune system. Abigail was a trooper through it all. She really only had two things that seemed to make her sad. She would tell me, "Mommy, when I'm done with chemo, can I go back to school?" and "Mommy, when I'm done with chemo, can I go to the Chick-fil-A playground?"
We made it through 20 weeks of chemo and went in right before Thanksgiving for a CT scan to see how the chemo had worked. We were elated when the oncologist told us the scans showed "no signs of cancer"!! The very next week we had her chemo port surgically removed. She was finally FREE! Ironically just a few weeks before she turned three years old, which she says as "free". We thanked God our baby was really and truly free.
Two days after Abigail had her port removed I woke the kids up with a surprise. We were not going to start our morning with homeschool as usual, instead we were going to Chick-fil-A for breakfast!!
We drove across the street to the Roswell Corners, GA location and shared why we were there. Immediately the staff jumped into customer service extraordinaire mode. They all told Abby congratulations. The hostess cleaned off a special table and set it all up before I had even finished ordering! The manager patiently waited until all of the kids ordered and even gave me Abigail's Nuggets for free. They gave Abigail a balloon and a stuffed cow. She was thrilled with being able to play on the playground and it really helped click in her head - she was cancer free! THANK YOU Chick-fil-A!
