Our Engagement Story
On Friday April 17, 2009, as I walked out of Jennifer’s parent’s house, I realized that I had just made the best decision of my life. I had just asked her father permission to marry his daughter, and he said YES! My heart was still beating fast and I could slowly feel my face return to its normal color. I was so excited.
After meeting up with some friends and almost spilling the beans a dozen times I realized that I was going to have to act fast. That night I tossed and turned in bed. Eventually, the sun came up, and so half-awake I hopped in the shower. As I scrubbed, I searched my head for an excuse to go and surprise Jenn. Luckily I had an epiphany while washing my hair:
“Surprise her with breakfast in bed from Chick-fil-A!!!”
I knew the one thing that could get her out of bed at 7:30 on a Saturday morning was some Chick-n-minis. Seriously, the only thing, this girl loves to sleep. As I drove over to her house I tried to sike myself up. I was nervous, really nervous. I wasn’t nervous about the answer, just nervous that I might throw-up on the Chick-fil-A when I handed it to her. DEAD GIVEAWAY! Anyway, when I arrived I literally ran up the driveway and straight to her door. I knocked on her bedroom door. I knocked again. I knocked a third time. Finally, my sleeping beauty answered the door. I really wish I had taken a picture of her face, she was giving me the “not yet awake-confused-slightly upset that I woke her-happy to see me holding a bag of Chick-fil-A” face. We’ve all seen it a thousand times.
I handed her the bag and amazingly she didn’t dive back into bed. I told her to hold on, I had one more surprise. She was instructed to close her eyes, and not peek. I took a deep breath and got down on one knee. I told her to open her eyes. Once again I really wish I had a camera.
So as you can see, Chick-fil-A has a special place in our hearts, even though neither one of us could eat a single bite that day.
