About Bubba Cathy

 Portait of Bubba Cathy

Nicknamed by his older brother, Dan, when they were very young, Donald “Bubba” Cathy grew up in and around the family business. Today he is an integral leader in the growth and development of Chick-fil-A, and as could be expected from someone with a name like Bubba, he is absolutely larger than life.

His Father's Son

“My earliest memories are spending time in the Hapeville Dwarf House,” he says, “working with my family and watching Dad serve others inside and outside of the restaurant.”

“Dad” was the one and only S. Truett Cathy, who went on to build the country’s largest chicken chain, along with a reputation for relentless generosity and compassion for others. Cathy always hoped to follow in his father’s footsteps, but it wasn't until he became the franchise Operator of Chick-fil-A’s Southlake Mall restaurant in Morrow, Ga. that he realized his true passion: service.

After earning a marketing degree from Samford University, Cathy returned to Chick-fil-A. He has held several different positions within the company — including his first job as a construction apprentice— but in 1995, he was officially named senior vice president of Chick-fil-A, Inc. Today, he serves as executive vice president and president of the company’s Georgia-based Dwarf House and Truett’s Grill restaurant concepts.

A People Person

Cathy’s love for people extends beyond the walls of Chick-fil-A. He is actively involved with the WinShape Foundation, where he provides leadership across multiple programs designed to build relationships and strengthen individuals, families, and teams.

“Life Is A Great Adventure”

Constantly investing in the lives of others, especially as it relates to combining adventure with the art of building relationships, Cathy brings a unique and endearing leadership style to every venture.

“We all have a role to play,” he says, “and finding more meaningful and memorable ways to live and work together is a great responsibility. I want to live a life full of joy and adventure, and I want the people around me to do the same.”

Cathy has been sailing for more than 30 years, and through the WinShape Foundation, he regularly takes groups on voyages throughout the British Virgin Islands. He is also a motorcyclist and leads groups on charity rides throughout the United States.

One of Bubba Cathy’s favorite quotes is from American author, James Michener, who wrote, "the master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both.”

This is certainly an ideal that Cathy lives by — enjoying each and every opportunity he has to fully live — in work and play.

Bubba Cathy and his wife, Cindy, have been married for nearly 40 years and have six children and six grandchildren.
