New dish brings southwest flavors to salad menu
As the cold weather slips away and warmer temperatures take its place, there's something energizing about springtime. Longer days, more sunshine, and the return of fresh vegetables make us want to move a little more and eat a little lighter.
But lighter fare doesn't have to be boring. After listening to customers who wanted healthy options that didn't sacrifice flavor, Chick-fil-A revamped its salad lineup in 2013 and introduced the Grilled Market Salad, Cobb Salad, and the bygone Asian Salad to the menu. Three years later, just in time for spring, there's a new addition: the Spicy Southwest Salad.
At 260 calories before toppings, the salad -- a reboot of a former customer favorite, the Southwest Chargrilled Salad -- brings new flavors like lime, chipotle, jalapeno, garlic and onion to the salad offerings. Seasoned tortilla strips, roasted corn and black beans, and chili lime pepitas also add a spicy kick. And no iceberg lettuce here. This salad is made with romaine, baby greens, grape tomatoes, and cabbage.
Besides its zesty flavor profile, the salad is also the first on the menu to feature thinly sliced spicy grilled chicken (1/8 inch, to be exact.) It's also the first to offer two salad dressing options, each created to pair perfectly with the new salad. For customers looking for a lighter option with only 60 calories, try the Chili Lime Vinaigrette. Feeling saucy? Go for the Creamy Salsa Dressing.
