Reaching new heights
Since 1982, Legal Outreach has used law-related educational courses, activities and programs to prepare low-income, mostly minority, and/or first-generation urban youth from underserved neighborhoods in New York City for academic success and professional careers. The organization’s multifaceted curriculum includes legal instruction, simulations, professional exposure and internships, coaching/mentorship and more. In 1989, Legal Outreach established College Bound, a comprehensive, four-year college prep program. Since graduating the first class in 1993, 98% of participating students have attended four-year college.
“The Chick fil-A True Inspiration Awards grant will support Legal Outreach’s implementation of 12 distinct programs designed to provide over 220 low-income and minority youth from underserved communities in New York City with the academic skills, exposure, values, discipline and support necessary for success in college and beyond,” said James B. O'Neal, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Legal Outreach.
