Birthdays only come around once a year, so it’s important to make them special. While celebrations come in all shapes and sizes, these kids’ birthdays all had one thing in common: Chick-fil-A. These birthday celebrations may just take the cake...literally!
On one summer weekend in 1945, 18-year-old Edmund Rusinek and his buddies left their army training camp in Little Rock, Arkansas in search of a hearty, Southern meal. As the young draftees sat in a booth enjoying their break from GI food, they were approached by an elderly gentleman who asked if they could do him a favor and let him buy their meals. When the men asked how they could repay him, the gentleman responded, “The only way to thank me is to pass it on.”
September 21st was a special day for Stephen Bellissimo, a longtime guest at Chick-fil-A Oldsmar in Tampa, Florida. And the entire staff wanted to show much they appreciated the man they affectionately call “Mr. Steve” on his 100th birthday.
May 25th started out like any other Friday for Chick-fil-A Team Member Jean Barrow. The local franchise Operator Sean McClure picked her up, just as he always does, before her shift. Jean has served as a hostess for nearly two decades and on every shift, she walks around the restaurant’s dining room for three hours, starting conversations by sharing a simple joke or a kind word.
James Knottek’s birthday gift lasted just a few seconds, but it’s one he will remember for the rest of his life. On a day like most, Knottek walked into work at his local Chick-fil-A restaurant. His first task was straightforward: keep the kitchen in tip-top shape so the restaurant could serve its more than 1,300 daily customers with ease (his co-workers affectionately call him “Captain America Cleaner”). But when Knottek’s manager asked him stop what he was doing so he could show him something in the back, he knew something was up.
