What is Chick-fil-A's stance on Animal Wellbeing Standards?

Following high food quality and safety standards is important to Chick-fil-A. This includes protecting the humane treatment of animals. We have a well-defined set of Animal Wellbeing Standards in place, and we only partner with suppliers who commit to meeting or exceeding our standards for farm animal welfare.

Our Animal Wellbeing Council of outside academic and scientific experts provide regular feedback on our policies and practices. With their input, we are constantly evaluating our approach to ensure it reflects what is best, both for guests and animal wellbeing.

For starters, as part of our No Antibiotics Important to Human Medicine (NAIHM) commitment, chickens must be raised with proper nutrition and without antibiotics important to human health. Our chicken supply must be hatched, raised and harvested in the U.S. in climate-controlled barns - not cages - with closely controlled temperature, ventilation and lighting to reduce stress on the animals. Chickens must be free to roam, protected from adverse weather and predators, and have full access to food and water.

To ensure compliance with our standards, five members of our Staff are trained as auditors by the Professional Animal Auditor Certification Organization (PAACO). Auditors pass a comprehensive exam and take regular continuing education courses to advance animal welfare within Chick-fil-A, Inc. We also conduct regular third-party audits of our chicken suppliers to ensure that our high standards are in place.
