Meet Restaurant Operator
Mike Mills
My Chick-fil-A story started at Heartland Mall in 1995 in Early, Texas. I landed my first and forever job just 2 weeks before my 16th birthday. Heartland Mall was the 134th store built by Chick-fil-A. I worked there throughout high school moving up from a Team Member to a Team Leader.
In the fall of 1998, I moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University. My operator called and got me an interview with the operator at the free stander. I worked there through college until 2003 when I graduated. This restaurant was quite the opposite of the small unit I started in. It was a top 10 sales store in the chain. Positions I held were Team Leader, Opening Supervisor, and Closing Supervisor.
From 2003-2005, I traveled for Corporate doing grand openings, opening around 20 stores nationwide during that time.
In 2005, my second Operator’s first location inside of a mall was struggling. They had built a free stander nearby which was hurting the sales growth for the mall unit. Chick-fil-A offered me the chance to run the store as a corporate-owned restaurant. It was my chance to prove I could be an Operator. I ran that store for 19 months before receiving the offer of a lifetime.
On the day before Thanksgiving in 2006, I was offered the South Park Mall unit in San Antonio as an Operator. I took over March of 2007, winning the Symbol of Success that year! I continued to be the Owner until June of 2009 when I won the bid to become the Operator of a new location on the NE side of San Antonio.
We opened (then called Seguin Road) on August 27, 2009 where we exceeded sales projections! My team and I have won Symbol of Success in 2014, 2015, 2019 & 2020 at this location and are striving to reach a fifth year of Symbol.
