Local partnership helps provide nourishing meals as people overcome adversity
Chicken chili. Breakfast casserole. Chicken tacos. These are just a few of the recipes that Steve Agron, the food services director of Pivot Ministries, cooks for those in need using food donated from a local Chick-fil-A® restaurant.
Addressing hunger and food insecurity in Connecticut
Since December 2023, Chick-fil-A Post Road in Fairfield, Conn., has partnered with Pivot Ministries to donate quality surplus food from the Restaurant – like chicken, biscuits, produce and more – through the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® food donation program.
For Rich Beattie, local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Post Road, the decision to engage in the program was easy because it provided a turnkey and impactful opportunity to give back to local community members.
“Chick-fil-A Shared Table allows us to save quality food that may have been overproduced or would otherwise end up in a landfill, and instead give it to Pivot Ministries,” said Rich. “They repurpose our chicken, salads, biscuits and other items into a variety of different recipes that they serve at their soup kitchen.”
Every day except Sunday, donations are picked up and transformed into nourishing dishes for those in need.
“Chick-fil-A’s donations give us so much to expand on the menu,” said Steve, who prepares approximately 120 meals per day for up to 40 men who are working to overcome homelessness and addiction.
A local partnership with local impact
Currently, Chick-fil-A Post Road is the only quick-service restaurant giving away its extra food to Pivot Ministries, and the donations have helped create more than 8,900 meals. Statewide, more than 12 participating Chick-fil-A restaurants have partnered with 10 nonprofits to help create over 180,100 meals for those experiencing food insecurity in Connecticut.
“Good food makes people happy,” says Charlee Case, a Team Member at Chick-fil-A Post Road. “I love knowing that we’re giving our food away to make a difference in our community and to make an impact on people.”
