To celebrate the opening, Guests are welcome to join the fun by dressing in cow print on opening day to receive a free entrée.

Locally Owned and Operated
“I grew up visiting one of the first Chick-fil-A restaurants in California, so opening my own feels like a full-circle moment,” said Boerneke. “It’s been an honor to help restore this historic building and create a space where our community can celebrate old memories while creating new ones. My goal as a local Owner-Operator is to build a welcoming environment where everyone feels cared for and connected.”

More About Boerneke

  • Boerneke began his Chick-fil-A journey in 2017 as a Team Member in Thousand Oaks, California, and continued developing the leadership skills that prepared him to become a local Owner-Operator.
  • For the past six years, Boerneke and his family have called Sherman Oaks home and look forward to continuing to build meaningful connections and deepen their roots within the community.

Intentional Restaurant Design
Chick-fil-A Van Nuys & Hesby was built to honor the legacy of the original architect, Helen Liu Fong, and preserve one of the last Googie-style buildings in Los Angeles.

  • The vision for this restaurant was to restore, not replace. Chick-fil-A took a meticulous approach to preservation, including dismantling and reassembling the Palos Verdes stone walls, restoring the neon sign to match its original appearance and recreating the zig-zag banquette seating using original plans.
  • Chick-fil-A spent over five years restoring this location, delivering a space the brand and local community can be proud to call their own.

Cows Eat Free to Celebrate Chick-fil-A Van Nuys Blvd & Hesby
To celebrate the restaurant moo-ving into town, cows will eat free on opening day! Boerneke and his team are inviting the community to show off their cow spots on opening day for one free entrée.

  • Since 1995, the Cows have been a beloved part of Chick-fil-A, encouraging humans to skip burgers and “Eat More Chikin” – and now it’s Sherman Oaks’s turn to join the herd.
  • Guests dressed in cow print – whether it’s a full cow costume or a simple cow-spotted accessory – can enjoy one free entrée* in person inside the restaurant.

Caring for the Sherman Oaks Community
Boerneke is committed to giving back to the Sherman Oaks community by:

  • Celebrating the opening with a $25,000 donation from Chick-fil-A, Inc. to Feeding America in honor of the new restaurant. These funds will be distributed to partners in the greater Los Angeles area to aid in the fight against hunger.
  • Participating in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® program, which redirects surplus food to local nonprofits, helping to create over 42 million meals nationwide to date.
