How a Team Member became like family to a mother and her son
When you walk into Chick-fil-A® Rivergate in Madison, TN, you can’t help but notice Ms. Joann’s smile. A Team Member since 2014, she loves her job – especially helping people – and anyone who knows her can attest to that.
“If I see somebody with a frown on their face, I’ll go talk to them. I try to put a smile on their face. I want everybody who comes into Chick-fil-A to feel happy,” she says.
There are two guests, in particular, who know how to put a smile on Ms. Joann’s face, too. LaTonya Winfrey and her 14-year-old son Joseph visit Chick-fil-A daily. For Joseph, who has autism, routine is important. Part of his daily routine is going to Chick-fil-A and seeing Ms. Joann, who knows Joseph’s order by heart.
“When he comes in here, he asks for 12-count nuggets, a pickle pack, sweet tea and a straw,” she says. “And if he gets the urge, he’ll ask for an Icedream®.”
To LaTonya, the best part of these visits is watching the special connection between her son and Ms. Joann.
“Ms. Joann sees Joseph for the person he is and not the diagnosis he has,” she says. “Even outside of Chick-fil-A, she has him in her heart.”
