Seasoned Tempe Owner-Operator Expands Service to Community, Honors 100 Local Heroes with Free Chick-fil-A Entrées for a Year

TEMPE, Ariz. (Nov. 26, 2024) – A new Chick-fil-A® restaurant will begin serving the Tempe community on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024. Chick-fil-A, Inc. has selected Brandon Barrett—the current Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A University at Mill—as the independent franchised local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Broadway at Priest.

Located at 1139 W Broadway Road, Chick-fil-A Broadway at Priest will be open for dine-in, drive-thru, carry-out and curbside from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The restaurant will also feature Mobile Thru, a fully dedicated lane in the drive-thru where Guests can pick up orders placed ahead of time on the Chick-fil-A App®

The Broadway at Priest restaurant joins more than 45 other Chick-fil-A restaurants serving the wider Phoenix market.

Locally Owned and Operated
Chick-fil-A’s franchise model is essential to how the restaurant serves others. Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are owned and operated by a single individual, which means Chick-fil-A’s local Owner-Operators are small business owners, not passive investors, who work in their restaurants side by side with their Team Members each day.

In Tempe, Barrett will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing more than 200 full- and part-time Team Members at his two restaurants, serving Guests, cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses, and tailoring philanthropic efforts to meet the Tempe community’s needs.

Chick-fil-A has always had a presence in Barrett’s life. A Georgia native, Barrett’s father worked for Chick-fil-A, Inc. in Atlanta for nearly 40 years. Barrett’s own journey with Chick-fil-A began in 2005, when he was selected to serve as the local Owner-Operator of a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Mesa. After two years in that restaurant, he was selected to open a new restaurant location—Chick-fil-A Mesa Riverview—where he served as the Operator for 17 years. He considers himself lucky to have been part of the team effort to expand Chick-fil-A's presence and impact in the Phoenix area.

In 2013, he opened his first Tempe location, Chick-fil-A University at Mill, where he has been actively serving the community through local partnerships with Chick-fil-A Leader Academy™, Arizona State University Athletics and sustainability initiatives like Adopt-a-Road. With the opening of Chick-fil-A Broadway at Priest, Barrett and his team are excited to continue fostering connections with Guests and finding new ways to care for the community in Tempe through his two restaurants in the area.

“Since becoming a local Owner-Operator in Arizona in 2005, we have had the incredible opportunity to make a positive impact on this community by partnering with so many local organizations,” Barrett said. “Opening an additional Restaurant in Tempe allows our team to deepen our connections, extend even greater care to this community and continue supporting the growth and development of the talented people of Tempe.”

Caring for the Tempe Community
The Chick-fil-A business is built to add positive impact beyond profit, including giving back to local communities. Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators are empowered to support the neighborhoods they serve with a key focus on hunger, education and specific community needs.

In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has donated $25,000 to Feeding America to support local hunger relief efforts of United Food Bank, a Feeding America partner food bank, in honor of the new restaurant. Barrett has often partnered with United Food Bank throughout his time as a Chick-fil-A Owner-Operator in Tempe and is eager to continue doing so through this new restaurant.

Barrett’s restaurants will both participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® program, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need. To date, more than 30 million meals have been created from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations from over 2,200 Chick-fil-A restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada.

In addition, Chick-fil-A Broadway at Priest is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Tempe area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.

A career at Chick-fil-A offers a wide range of benefits, including hands-on training and mentoring, competitive pay and benefits, the chance to apply for scholarships to support continued education, and the flexibility to thrive in and outside of work.
