COSTA MESA, Calif. (March 31, 2025) – A new Chick-fil-A® restaurant will begin serving the Costa Mesa community on Thursday, April 3, 2025. Chick-fil-A, Inc. has selected Justin Van Schoick as the independent franchised local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Newport & 17th, marking his second restaurant in the community.

Chick-fil-A Newport & 17th joins more than 110 other Chick-fil-A restaurants serving the wider
Los Angeles market.

Locally Owned and Operated

Chick-fil-A’s franchise model is essential to how the restaurant serves others. Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are owned and operated by a single individual, which means Chick-fil-A’s local
Owner-Operators are small business owners, not passive investors, who work in their restaurants side by side with their Team Members each day.

Van Schoick will continue to serve as the local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Harbor Blvd., alongside the new restaurant. He will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 100 full- and part-time Team Members, serving Guests, cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses, and tailoring philanthropic efforts to meet his Costa Mesa community’s needs.

An Action-Packed Start to a Meaningful Journey
Van Schoick has called Orange County home for the past 35 years. Prior to his career at Chick-fil-A, he spent almost two decades working in the construction industry before transitioning to a career where he led a team that specialized in retail development, as well as events and trade show production in the action sports industry. Van Schoick's corporate career gave him valuable skills and business acumen that he attributes to his success as a local Owner-Operator. It was his desire to cultivate meaningful relationships that inspired him to pursue a career path with Chick-fil-A, one that would allow him to positively impact the lives of those around him and in his community.

“My path to Chick-fil-A has been unconventional to say the least,” said Van Schoick. “From spending time working with multiple brands, in different regions and countries, to now having the ability to focus on people and impact, my Chick-fil-A journey has been one of my most exciting endeavors yet. I’m grateful for the support of the Costa Mesa community, and I’m looking forward to the opening of our new Newport & 17th restaurant.”

Caring for the Costa Mesa Community
The Chick-fil-A business is built to add positive impact beyond profit, including giving back to local communities. Chick-fil-A local Owner-Operators are empowered to support the neighborhoods they serve with a key focus on hunger, education, and specific community needs.

In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has donated $25,000 to Feeding America to support local hunger relief efforts of Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, a Feeding America partner food bank, in honor of the new restaurant.

Van Schoick’s restaurant is participating in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® program, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need. To date, more than 35 million meals have been created from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations from over 2,300 Chick-fil-A restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada.

In addition, Chick-fil-A Newport & 17th is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Costa Mesa area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.
